I have to laugh when I read the occasional post in a running forum that suggests that the only reason leading runners wear arm sleeves is because they are paid to. One recent poster said that he believed the only reason runners wear arm sleeves is to look chic. Running arm sleeves. Really? Really!!!!!
Running Arm Sleeves – Why do runners wear arm sleeves?
Naturally, no two runners wear arm sleeves for the same reasons. Here are ten reasons why you see more and more runners opting to wear quality UV arm sleeves and calf sleeves.
Reason #1: Safety, duh.
What runner hasn’t been nearly killed on account of a car, bus, or even a motorcycle not noticing them. Even when you try to exercise running awareness and safety, there are those on the road that are negligent in their driving. You need to watch out for them and you need to help them see you. Whether running in the early morning hours, the middle of the day, in the evening, or at night, wearing brightly colored or eye-catching arm sleeves and even calf sleeves significantly increases the odds that you will be seen by those on the road. Arguably, there is no better and safer combination of running arm and calf sleeves for you to wear than Uvoider UV Neon Yellow Arm Sleeves and Calf Sleeves.
Reason #2: Great for cold weather.
The features of UV compression arm sleeves keep your arms warm when it is cold. UV compression arm sleeves is a lighter weight, more comfortable alternative than wearing a long sleeve shirt or adding a layer. Comfort and lighter weight means better and more enjoyable running.
Reason #3: Great for hot weather.
The features of UV compression arm sleeves also keep your arms cool when it is scorching hot outside. As you run, your arms move. And with UV compression arm sleeves, the movement of your arms against the air creates an air conditioning like sensation and feel. For the runner, this is a refreshing feel that keeps you less aware of and bothered by the heat. After all, your arms are less hot.
Reason #4: Great for sun protection.
We all know that direct exposure to the sun for even as little as 15 minutes can cause sunburn. Think about that direct exposure to the sun over a 30 minute run or an hour long run. UV compression arm sleeves provide easy and convenient protection against sunburn. Just slip them on and you are protected.
Reason #5: Better than sunblock.
Sunblock is messy. First you slop it on and then you run, sweat, and get all wet. And when you are done running, your wet and sweaty arms are likely to touch up against something like a chair, sofa arm cushion, or car arm rest and make a mess of that as well.
Reason #6: Compression.
Runners use compression arm sleeves to reduce swelling, typically on longer runs, on account of muscle jarring and vibrations. Compression arm sleeves also provide recovery benefits. After a long run, simply keep your compression arm sleeves on. This will increase blood flow which removes the lactic acid that was built up in your arm muscles. Compression arm sleeves speed up the time it takes to recover from a long run.
Reason #7: Keeps insects off your arm skin.
Compression arm sleeves keeps insects and all of those biting bugs off your skin. But even better than that, since your arms are not hot and sweaty, those chemical and heat sensing bugs will not find you in the first place.
Reason #8: Value.
If you consider the cost of sunblock and bug spray that you would have to otherwise use, compression arm sleeves pay for themselves in one season and save you money after that. Add in the cost of that extra layer that you do not have to have when wearing arm sleeves, the value and savings become even more.
Reason #9: Style.
Simply put, compression arm sleeves are stylish. You can go with the always suitable color to wear white or you can venture out and show some more personality with color, print, and design arm sleeves.
Reason #10: Make it easy for your friends to find you.
Whether you are out running with your friends, running at a charity event, or competing at a race, it can be easy to become separated from the group. What better way for your friends to spot you than to be the one wearing the really cool, eye-catching UV compression arm sleeves. You might not be able to spot your friends, but they will surely be able to spot you. Who knows, your stylish, eye-catching Uvoider US Arm and Calf Sleeves.

Arm Measurement Guidelines
For most people, to find the arm sleeve that fits you best all you need to measure is your bicep. Be sure to measure around your relaxed bicep (not flexed). You can then compare the various arm sleeve sizes from Youth Small (YS) to Quadruple Extra Large (4XL) and pick the best fit size for you. There are a few things to keep in mind. As always, if you require further assistance, please contact a Customer Service Representative.
How arm sleeve sizing works
The first and most important thing to understand about arm sleeve sizing is that the width of the arm sleeve at your bicep area has to be smaller than the width of your relaxed bicep or else it will not stay up. Typically, an arm sleeve will be about .5 to 1.0 inches smaller than the width of your relaxed bicep. In addition to being smaller in circumference than the width of your bicep, quality arm sleeves will have a gripping strip to ensure that your arm sleeves do not fall down and that your fit will be long lasting.
Upper arm fit vs lower arm fit
Second, the arm sleeve that best fits your upper arm might not be the best fit for your lower arm. For most uses, you would want the upper arm to fit best as you don’t want your arm sleeve to slide down your arm. If the lower arm wrist area fits a little loose, you would likely not notice it. You could have a use such as painting or working with chemicals and sprays in which you prefer the lower arm wrist area to be the best fitting area of your sleeve. But generally, due to the stretchy compression fit of the arm sleeve, you should be able to find a size that will comfortably and snugly fit your entire arm.
Left and right arms may not be the same size
Third, be mindful that your two arms might not be the same size. Be sure to measure the larger of your two arms when determining the best fitting sleeve for you. And, if you are one of those athletes that by the nature of your sport has one arm that is substantially larger than the other, be sure to measure both of your arms. You might find that your larger arm requires a larger size than your smaller arm. And that’s okay. You can order one size of sleeves for one arm and another size of sleeves for the other.
Quality of the arm sleeve
Fourth, be sure to check the quality of the arm sleeve. You don’t want a sleeve that will lose its shape and fit and that will slide off your arm. Look for a sleeve that is made out of a quality fabric such as a polyester (80%) and spandex (20%) mix and that has a gripping strip to secure the fit. This will provide durability and a long lasting fit. Also, look for an arm sleeve that utilizes flat-lock stitching. This is important for both comfort of fit in the seam area and in ensuring that the sleeves last longer than just one wear!
Sizing for the advanced wearer
And lastly, for the advanced wearer of UV compression arm sleeves, you might find that the recommended sizes provided by your supplier might not be enough information for you. Not all suppliers provide the same amount of sizes from which to choose and the sizes may not be the same from one supplier to the next. To get the exact technical details of your arm sleeves such as the width of the sleeve at the bicep, the width of the sleeve at the wrist, and the length of the sleeve, you should always ask the supplier. They will be happy to give it.
