Arm Sleeves for Skin Care – Don’t let rashes keep you from fun!

Skin Care Arm Sleeves

If you are a tennis player and your masseuse applies a massage cream to your arm which causes an immediate allergic reaction and gives you a bad rash and your doctor tells you to stay out of the sun for a week, what do you do? For ATP World Tour #6 ranked player, Milos Raonic, the decision was easy; wear a quality UV compression arm sleeve.

The Raonic riddle: What’s up with that sleeve?

Thanks to Nicholas McCarvel, free-lance writer and contributing tennis reporter for USA TODAY Sports who wrote the online article, “The Raonic riddle: What’s up with that sleeve?”, we now know the story behind the compression arm sleeve of Milos Raonic. On account of a bad rash and having an occupation that requires you to be in the sun, Milos Raonic donned a compression arm sleeve. The arm sleeve kept the sun and sweat off of Milos’s rash and prevented it from getting worse as he went about his profession. He played great wearing the compression arm sleeve. After the rash went away, he played sans arm sleeve and didn’t do so well. So, he put the arm sleeve back on and guess what, he won. And he won a lot and has been wearing the compression arm sleeve ever since.

Lessons Learned from The Raonic Riddle

There are many lessons to be learned from The Raonic Riddle.

Lesson #1: Listen to your doctor. If you have a bad rash, keep it out of the sun. The sun, along with salty sweat and visits from all kinds of chemical and heat sensing bugs that bite, will only make your rash worse. In addition to inflaming the rash, exposure to the sun and all that follows can make it spread as well as infect it. In addition to requiring even more time for recovery, you could end up with permanent tissue damage and scarring.

Lesson #2: Keeping your rash out of the sun doesn’t mean that you have to keep out of the sun. Like Milos, with the advice of his doctor, if you need to be or want to be out in the sun, you have options. Whether your rash comes just before a planned vacation to Hawaii or a beautiful weekend that you had planned to enjoy outside, you don’t have to let a rash or skin problem on your arms keep you from fun. You can cover up in a number of ways from shirts to pullovers to arm sleeves. But you have to take care to truly cover your arms well. Light-weight fabric with little to no sun protection will not get the job done. You should look for UPF 50+ options and if your clothing or arm sleeves is not labelled as UPF 50+, you can be rest assured that it is not.

Lesson 3: Arm sleeves can be for skin care too. Athletes that wear compression arm sleeves know all too well the performance, protection, and recovery benefits that arm sleeves provide. When you have a rash or damaged skin, you need to care for it. Compression arm sleeves do a number of things that help you care for your skin as you enjoy the sun. The compression features of arm sleeves keep your sore spots under skin, sort of speak. That is, your sore spots are covered and held in place by the compression. This eliminates scratching and irritation since there is no loose fabric rubbing up against sore spots. Also, the moisture wicking properties of arm sleeves keep things dry. The perspiration on your arms will be wicked away and you won’t have the itching and irritation that come when salty sweat meets sore spots. And since the arm sleeves cover your rashes and sore spots so effectively, no insects or biting bugs will find them.

Lesson #4:  You may even like them. For many people, this fourth lesson is the best. You might find that you actually like wearing compression arm sleeves. Though your initial reason for wearing them might be to protect your skin from the sun, as was the case for tennis great Milos Raonic, don’t be surprised if whatever activity you were doing with those arm sleeves on, you will do it better. It is hard to imagine any outdoor activity, and indoor as well for that matter, that involve the use of your arms for which wearing arm sleeves will not help you perform that activity better.

Lesson #5. Don’t let rashes keep you from fun. Having a rash is already not enjoyable. So, if all that is keeping you from fun is a rash on your arm, slip on a quality UV compression arm sleeve.

For people with rashes, sore spots, and sun damaged arms, quality UV compression arm sleeves have many benefits to offer that are worthy of consideration. Arm Sleeves for Skin Care – Don’t let rashes keep you from fun!
